AP Medical Council Chief Urges Medical Students to Uphold Ethics in Patient Care
Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) Chairman Dr. Daggumati Sreehari Rao has emphasised the importance of adhering to professional ethics in patient care during an orientation programme themed ‘Public Health — Ethics’ held at Sri Venkateswara Medical College.
Speaking at the event on Saturday, Dr. Rao advised postgraduate medical students and house surgeons to strictly abide by ethical standards and avoid breaching any prescribed guidelines.
According to The Hindu, during his address, Dr. Rao urged the budding doctors to maintain a clear boundary in their conduct with patients and to prioritise compassionate and appropriate medical care. He highlighted the importance of ethical behavior in clinical practice and outlined essential protocols such as accurate documentation, thorough case history profiling, prompt diagnosis and treatment, and diligent follow-up procedures. “When you ensure that these steps are followed in letter and spirit, you are certain to win the hearts of the patients and also climb the career ladder”, he said.
He also recommended that medical colleges make such ethical orientation sessions compulsory for house surgeons to better equip them for handling clinical responsibilities with integrity. Even the medicos expressed their interest in conducting similar workshops and awareness initiatives regularly across the academic calendar.
The programme was presided over by Dr. G. Ravi Prabhu, Additional Director of Medical Education and Principal of SV Medical College. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Parthasarathy Reddy, Superintendent of Government Maternity Hospital; SVMC Vice Principal Dr. D.S.N. Murthy; and Ethics Committee Coordinator Dr. A.S. Kireeti, among others.
