Dental Students' Association Urges Action Against Quacks
Guntur: The All India Dental Students Association (AIDSA), along with its surgeons’ wing, has formally appealed to the Dental Council of India (DCI) and various state dental councils, demanding urgent intervention against unlicensed dental practitioners.
Letters were submitted to key regulatory bodies, including the Telangana Dental Council, Andhra Pradesh Dental Council, and Delhi Dental Council, highlighting the serious public health risks posed by unqualified individuals performing dental procedures.
The association has stressed the need for strict enforcement of regulations to prevent dental quackery, which can lead to severe infections, complications, and improper treatments. Unauthorized practitioners not only endanger patients' lives but also undermine the credibility of the profession, the AIDSA stated.
“We seek your urgent intervention against the growing menace of dental quackery in the state. Unqualified individuals practicing dentistry without proper education pose severe risks, including infections, improper treatments, and legal violations under the Dentists Act, 1948. This unethical practice endangers patients, erodes public trust, and tarnishes the profession’s integrity,” the letter reads.
The association further stated, “As part of our nationwide Anti-Quackery Awareness Week, we urge the State Dental Council to take strict action by conducting inspections, initiating legal proceedings, raising public awareness, and collaborating with law enforcement. We request immediate steps to curb this malpractice and ensure only qualified professionals provide dental care. AIDSA is committed to supporting this cause and looks forward to your prompt action.”
As part of the Anti-Quackery Awareness Week, AIDSA National President Dr. Manzur, along with Telangana State Vice President Jagadesh and Telangana State Secretary Sachin, submitted a letter to the DCI office. Dr Brijesh Delhi, AIDSA State President, submitted a letter at the Delhi DCI office. Dr Balaswamy Palakayala (President), Dr Afreen Shahista, and Dr. Navya Chowdary of AP State AIDSA met Dr Ramana Reddy (AP State Dental Council Vice President) and handed over the letter highlighting the issue.
AIDSA is an independent and recognized voice of dental professionals in India. The All India Dental Students Association was established in the year 2021 to unite dental students all across the world. Since its inception, more than 100 dental colleges in India with more than 30,000 students have been associated with the organization and are still growing.
