Medical Students swept away in Jalatarangani Waterfalls, 2 drown to death, 1 missing

Although the police have found the bodies of two medical students, the search for the other student is on.

"We found the bodies of two female medical students at 7 am on Monday. We are yet to trace the third student and NDRF teams are searching for him," Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district superintendent of police Amit Bardar told PTI.

As Odisha Tv news report, the incident took place when 14 students of the medical college visited Maredumilli on Sunday morning and went to the Jalatharanagini waterfall for a bath. However, the five medical students near the waterfall were swept away in the tide while they were clicking pictures. The incident occurred due to a sudden rise in the water level of the waterfall following heavy rainfall in the area.

Following this, the police were informed and arrived at the spot with a search rescue team. They managed to save two medical students but two drowned to death and the other is missing. 

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jagadeesh Adahalli told TNIE, "National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams have been alerted to conduct search operations in the waterfalls. The area is a dense forest, and heavy rains are ongoing. Ramapachodavaram MLA Sirisha Devi visited the hospital and spoke to the two medicos."

A case of drowning has been registered by the police and an investigation is underway.
