Ensure private practice during duty hours are stopped: Assam CM to GMCH Principal

Guwahati: The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the Principal of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to ensure that doctors are stopped from providing services at private nursing homes during duty hours.

The CM had visited the GMCH on December 19 to take stock of the services provided to the patients, when he gave the orders.

As per a media report in the Guwahati Plus. He had further directed the GMCH Principal to ensure that 'such acts are stopped.'

During his visit to the GMCH, the doctor said that he had received complaints stating that the doctor of GMCH were involved in duties at nursing homes.

He added that no government doctors would be able to perform private duties during their duty time in the government hospitals and doctors would not be able to leave the duty early, reports the NewsLive TV.

The CM stated on Twitter, "Visited GMCH & took stock of the services provided to patients. There have been complaints about certain doctors providing services at private nursing homes during their duty hours. Directed GMCH Principal to ensure that such acts are stopped."

Additionally, the CM said that he also stressed them to continue the yeoman services which were rendered to patients by GMCH during the Covid-19 crisis. He further added and discussed that the new services of the super speciality hospital would begin functioning from February, 2022.

He also spoke on the omicron variant, adding that no separate SOP is issued by the state for that and the SOP issued by the Centre would be followed by the state.

"I discussed the new super-specialty Block to be launched in Feb 2022, and on ways to utilize ICU for other patients since Covid cases are less," Sarma was quoted as saying by GuwahatiPlus.
