Chandigarh: One of its distinguished faculty, Dr Surinder Rana, Professor, Department of Gastroenterology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGI) Chandigarh, has been awarded Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation and the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Foundation, (APDWF-JGHF) prestigious Emerging Leaders Lectureship Award for 2022. 

Dr Rana will be delivering a lecture on the endoscopic management of pancreatic necrosis at a session at the Asian Pacific Digestive Week 2022 (APDW2022) Congress being held in Xi'an, China, reports The Daily Guardian

The award citation states that Dr. Rana has been awarded in recognition of his excellence as a rising star and his contributions to Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Asia Pacific region. This award is an acknowledgment of his significant contributions to the management of pancreatic diseases including acute and chronic pancreatitis.

Dr. Surinder Rana is currently working as Assistant Professor at the Department of Gastroenterology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. He received his medical degree from the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, and did his fellowship in gastroenterology from P.G.I.M.E.R, Chandigarh. He has finished his MBBS, MD, and then did his DM. Later he completed his fellowships in FASGE, MAMS, FSGEI, and FAIGE.

His areas of research are pancreatic biliary disorders and therapeutic endoscopy. He has worked on various innovative endoscopic and endoscopic ultrasound methods for treating various gastrointestinal disorders with minimally invasive methods. To his credit, there are several first-time clinical and imaging features of various gastrointestinal disorders.

Multiple accolades have been bestowed on him, including the Don Wilson Award by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Postgraduate grants by the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Young Clinician Award by the World Congress of Gastroenterology and Young Scientist Medal by the Indian National Science Academy for significant contributions.
