425 faculty posts at AIIMS Delhi lying vacant: MoS Health

New Delhi: A total of 425 faculty positions remain vacant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, with 810 faculty members currently recruited out of 1,235 sanctioned posts.

The number of sanctioned non-faculty positions stands at 14,343, with 12,110 employees currently recruited. These details were recently shared in the Lok Sabha by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

The Minister was asked a series of questions by Parliament member, Smt Sajda Ahmed who sought to know whether the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is currently facing a shortage of staff and faculty, if so, the details of the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to address these shortages and ensure that patient care and academic activities are not affected.

He further asked whether the Government is planning to extend the services of several experienced faculty members at AIIMS, Delhi nearing retirement in the teaching and research realm; and inquired about the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to facilitate this process.

In response to these questions, the minister informed that the recruitment of faculty and staff is a continuous process. To fill up vacant posts AIIMS regularly conducts Standing Selection Committee meetings, Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET), Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) and Departmental Promotion Committee meetings. Moreover, he informed that as per the provision of Section 30(2) of AIIMS Regulations 2019, the retirement age for faculty is 65 years.

Medical Dialogues had reported last year that while replying to a Right to Information (RTI), the premier health institute the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, stated that around 363 posts of doctors/faculty members and 1,055 posts of paramedical staff are lying vacant against a total of 1,207 sanctioned posts of doctors/faculty members, and 8,225 posts of paramedical staff.
