COVID treatment at Delhi Private Hospitals: MHA caps rates

New Delhi: In a major relief to Delhi citizens, the high-level committee constituted by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to fix rates of COVID treatment at private hospitals, has given its recommendations.

The information to this effect comes with a recent announcement made by the Ministry of Home Affairs wherein it has clearly stated committee under Member of NITI Aayog, Dr VK Paul has recommended Rs 8000-10000, 13000-15000 and 15000-18000 including PPE costs for isolation bed, ICUs without and with ventilator respectively to all hospitals as compared to the current charges of Rs 24000-25000, 34000-43000 and 44000-54000 (excluding PPE cost).

These treatment rates for COVID-19 infected people will be applicable to private hospitals. Sample testing has been doubled immediately in pursuance of decisions taken by HM Amit Shah in a series of meetings. A total of testing samples of 27,263 have been collected in Delhi from 15 to 17 June 2020 against the daily collection which varied between 4,000-4,500 earlier.

The MHA declared the aforementioned in a series of tweets as follows:

Currently, most private hospitals are charging Rs 24,000-25,0000 for isolation beds, Rs 34,000-43,000 for ICUs without a ventilator and Rs 44,000-Rs 54,000 with a ventilator. These charges do not include PPE costs.

Earlier, a PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court seeking direction to Delhi government to constitute a committee of experts to cap the rates chargeable by private hospitals for COVID-19 treatment and fix the maximum retail prices for all COVID-19 related hospital services and PPE kits.

Delhi's infection tally stands at 49,979 and 1,969 people have died due to the coronavirus disease so far.
