Delhi Govt directs 132 private hospitals to reserve beds for Covid patients; Details
New Delhi: With an unprecedented surge in the number of severe COVID cases, the Delhi government has recently directed 42 private hospitals to reserve 80 percent of total ICU beds, while another 90 private hospitals have been asked to reserve 60 percent of total bed capacity for treatment of Covid-19 patients.
In this regard, the Delhi Government has issued a set of two different orders with a list attached that specifies the name of the hospitals. A copy of the same was shared on Twitter by Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday.
While one of the order clearly directs 42 private hospitals to reserve 80 percent of their total ICU bed capacity for Covid-19 patients with immediate effect.
"In order to augment the KU/ HDU bed capacity for COVID-19 patients, the hospitals listed in Annexure 'A' are directed to reserve 80% of their total ICU/ HDU bed capacity for treatment of COVID-19 patients with immediate effect," the order read.
With this, the number of ICU beds for covid treatment in private hospitals will increase to 260.
The order further added, "However, d in some hospitals, listed in Annexure 'A', non-COVID patients are already admitted in more than 20% of their KU/ HDU beds then in such case(s), once these non-COVID patients (s) are discharged, the vacant ICU/HDU bed shall thereafter be kept reserve for COVID-19 patients only."
Meanwhile, in another order 90 private hospitals have been asked to reserve 60 percent of their total beds for treatment of Covid-19 patients. "This will increase 2,644 beds in private hospitals for covid treatment," Jain stated on his Twitter handle.
The order stated, "In order to augment the bed capacity for COVID-19 patients, the hospitals listed in Annexure 'A' are directed to reserve 60% of their total bed capacity for treatment of COVID-19 patients with immediate effect."
"However, if in some hospitals, listed in Annexure 'A', non-COVID patients are already admitted in more than 40% of their beds then in such case(s), once these non-COVID patients (s) are discharged, the vacant bed shall thereafter be kept reserve for COVID-19 patients only. Further, the hospitals listed in Annexure 'A' are allowed temporarily to increase their bed capacity 25% depending on their space availability," the order added.
