Delhi: In a move which can significantly boost medical education in Delhi, the government is planning to establish a medical college in the Dwarka area at an estimated cost of over Rs 800 crore.

The proposed medical college will be built in Sector 17, Dwarka, located in South-West Delhi.

This was discussed during a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The proposal for this medical college, estimated to cost ₹806 crore, was submitted to the government for approval.

According to the PTI report, the new medical college will feature an eight-story academic block, hostels for students, housing for faculty, a playground, and other facilities. The academic block will house four lecture theatres with a seating capacity of 180 each.

Additionally, the academic block of the medical college will also include practical labs, teaching classrooms with a seating capacity of 25 students each, and a central library with a seating capacity of 300 individuals.

Along with this, smart classrooms with interactive displays, enhanced acoustics in lecture theatres, audio-video systems, access control, CCTV cameras, and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will also be featured in this building.

This will be a green building featuring numerous energy-efficiency characteristics, such as high-efficiency LED lighting, superior thermal insulation, weather resistance, high-solar-reflectance coatings, rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, and rooftop solar panels, among others.

Meanwhile, each of the two hostels built for MBBS students will accommodate 338 boys and girls. Additionally, hostel facilities will also be available for postgraduate students and interns.

Faculty housing will include Type 4, Type 5, and Type 6 quarters.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported that a total of 43 new medical colleges have been established and the government has approved 11,682 MBBS seats and 8,967 Postgraduate seats (including AIIMS and INIs) across the country for the 2025-26 academic year, Minister of State for Health Smt
Anupriya Patel
informed the parliament.
