New Delhi: In a remarkable turn of events, Dr Tanu Jain, who transitioned from a medical career to become an IAS officer, has now made a bold decision to step away from her civil services role and embrace full-time teaching after 7 years of service.

Despite securing success as an IAS officer in the 2015 batch, Dr Tanu Jain has chosen to chart a new professional venture.

Hailing from the Sadar area of Delhi and an alumna of Cambridge School, Tanu Jain pursued a degree in BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from Subharti Medical College before making her mark in the UPSC exam. While immersed in her dentistry studies, Tanu Jain commenced her UPSC preparation, eventually focusing on becoming an IAS officer.
Tanu Jain's UPSC journey was not without its hurdles. Despite clearing the prelims exam within a mere two months in her first attempt, she faced challenges in the mains. However, it was in her third attempt in 2014 that she secured the 648th rank, marking a turning point in her career trajectory.
Post her noteworthy achievement, Dr Tanu Jain continued her commitment to social service initiatives, motivational speaking, and authored books. Now, with a resolute spirit, she ventures into the realm of full-time teaching, showcasing her versatility and determination to contribute to the education sector. Explaining her decision, she told DNA, "My job was fulfilling, and I worked diligently for seven and a half years. However, I observed challenges in UPSC preparation. Having gone through the struggles of exam preparation myself, I understand the difficulties aspirants face. Life presents growth opportunities, and with my husband in civil service, I felt empowered to take the risk and pursue a new chapter in my life."
This is not the first time that a medical professional has pursued civil service. Last year, a Thane-based dentist Dr Kashmira Sankhe made the State proud as she achieved the countrywide rank of 25 in the examination, while Dr Sumedh Jadhao bagged an all-India rank of 687. In 2019, a 25-year-old MBBS doctor from Rohtak, Dr Aparajita Singh Sinsinwar secured rank 82 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.
