IMA honours medical professionals with prestigious awards on Doctors Day, details
Delhi: Indian Medical Association (IMA), as the Mother Organization of the medical fraternity, has recognized the doctors who have made exemplary contributions to the medical profession and in various areas of Health on 1st of July, on the eve of Doctors' Day.
IMA has conferred awards to eminent doctors all over the country to appreciate them for their dedication and hard work in providing healthcare to the country, especially to underprivileged and rural India. It's a special day for medical professionals across the country, with India celebrating Doctor's Day, Honouring the contributions of its white coat saviors who work tirelessly towards the health of the nation.
This year, the theme is "Resilience and healing hands of doctors", with a special salute to the resilience and dedication of the doctors who extended their helping hands in handling the pandemic. " During the COVID pandemic, we lost our 2000 doctors who sacrificed their lives while treating the citizens of this country. We tribute all the families of those by remembering their dedication and commitment to the profession on this Doctors Day," IMA stated.
This year also, IMA has received around 450 applications for Awards from different parts of the country. In a recent press release IMA stated, "All the 450 members are praiseworthy and have rendered their wonderful services to the community without any reward. But it was decided to give 20 to 25 awards. Out of the 450 applications, we have selected 24 names." The awards include academic award, IMA leadership award, Administrative award, community service award, imminent doctor personality award, senior citizen award, and special imminent doctor personality award.
For contributing to IMA's initiative to give health to Every Indian, the following doctors across the country have been awarded:
ACADEMIC AWARDS:
1. Dr. Rajesh Kr Jha from Bihar. He has done his MBBS and PG from Lalit Narayan Mithila University. He has 59 publications and different studies on rumatic fever, the use of therapeutic plasma-paresis and intensive vasopressors therapy.
2. Dr. Kriti Nirmal from East Delhi. She has done her MBBS from MAMC and PG (microbiology) from UCMC, Delhi. She has acted as trustee of the registered NGO C Foundation, PI of MRU project, and Principal investigator of the intramural project.
3. Dr. Nilesh Parekh from Gujarat. He has done his MBBS and PG from BJ Medical College. He published in different journals of Opthalmology and also worked for the control of blindness and visual impairment.
4. Dr. Bhavinder Kumar Arora from Hariyana. He has done his MBBS and PG from Medical College Rohtak. He has 27 national publications and 64 research papers.
5. Prof. Rajiv Gupta from Madhya Pradesh. He has done his MBBS and MD from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. He is also a DM is cardiology from AIIMS Delhi. He has more than 106 publications on cardiology. He also worked on COVID-19 involvement of the heart and its outcome.
6. Prof. Pradeep Purushottam Sharma from Maharashtra. He is an MBBS from BJ Medical College and PG from Pune University. He is also a DNB. He has 34 paper presentations and 32 paper publications. He served as an editorial board member of different journals and he has 7 different surgical fellowships.
7. Prof. Dr. Ketan K Mehta from Mumbai. He is an MBBS and PG from Seth GS Medical College. He is a consultant physician and president of IMA Mumbai West. He is also a member of the American Society of Hypertension.
8. Dr. Nitin Khunteta from Rajasthan. He is an MBBS and MS from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. He pursued super speciality from College of oncological sciences and cancer institute Ayar. With excellent work in academics and oncology, he published 23 papers and received 24 different awards on onco surgery.
9. Dr. D Baskaran from Tamil Nadu. He has done his MBBS and PG from Thanjavur Medical College. He pursued his super speciality degree from Madurai Medical College. He has published so many research papers in national journals on neo natal genital prolapse. He organized camps on childbirth.
10. Dr. Chinthamadaka Sairam from Telangana. He has done his MBBS and PG from Bangalore University. He has contributed to different journals and received the rising star award, Padmabhushan and Mehdi Nawajang Memorial award from the President of India. He has published more than 1000 research papers on radiation in oncology.
11. Dr. Prema from Tinsukiya, Assam. She completed her MBBS from Assam Medical College. She has contributed in the development of reproductive medicines and she organized camps in rural and tribal areas for creating awareness regarding female health and hygiene.
12. Prof. Manidip Pal from West Bengal. He has completed his MBBS and MD (Obs and Gyn) from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal. He also completed a Urogynecology certificate course from Chennai. He has been honoured with Bharat Jyoti award, IOG Dr Satya Pal award, and ISSN International Best Research award. He worked on more than 42 research papers and he acted as the co-principal investigator with NIBMG Project.
IMA LEADERSHIP AWARD:
1. Dr. VJ Pradeep Kumar from Kerala. He has completed his MBBS and PG from Gov Medical College, Calicut University. He has a PG diploma in Hospital Administration. He also served as NAT INST of Health and Family Welfare Delhi. He held different posts in Indian Stroke Association and IMA. He also held key posts for social service associations for last 20 years.
2. Dr. Mitesh Shah from Gujarat. He pursued his MBBS and PG from Barodara Medical College. He holds different key post in Indian Medical Association (IMA), Lios Cl8ub and other local organizations. He established a new bio-medical management cell and also contributed in the constitution of JDN and many Youthcons.
3. Dr. Praveen Katiyar from Uttar Pradesh. He completed his MBBS from GSVM Medical College, Kanpur and his PG from Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur. He is a Ph.D. from Ing George Medical University, Lucknow. He held different posts in CSJM University Kanpur as well as IMA Kanpur and UP chapter. He was awarded more than 34 awards at the national and state levels.
4. Dr. Anupam Sirohi from Uttar Pradesh. He completed his MBBS and PG from LLRM Medical College, Meerut. She has held important posts in IMA, gynaecological society and the women doctors' wing. She has organized state-level refresher courses also.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
1. Prof. Dr. Bindu Menon from Andhra Pradesh. She completed her MBBS from Gandhi Medical College, Madhya Pradesh and MD in medicine from Gajraja Medical College, MP. She is a DM in Neurology from the University of Mumbai. She pursued her Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Neurology from London. She started Neurology on wheels by which she has done tremendous work on awareness programs for epilepsy stroke and headaches. She conducted more than 30 medical camps and adopted pragathy charity for orphanage children with epilepsy and started neuro voice.
2. Dr. Jugal Kishore Choudhary from Jharkhand. He has completed his MBBS from Bhagalpur University. He is an MS from RMCH Ranchi. He conducted many blood donation and medical camps in rural areas with the Indian red cross society. He has worked in tribal areas of Dumka, Deoghar and Pakur district.
3. Dr. Madhusudhana Kariganuru from Andhra Pradesh. He is an MBBS from Gov medical college Bellary and MS (General Surgery) from Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Science. He conducted many free health camps in rural areas of Peddakottala and Billalapuram. He established Srujann Foundation to educate the village students about basic life support. He started Vidyara Nudi Arogya Sri meaning Doctors' World Health Treasures. He got 6 gold medals in senior consultant decision in AP's ENT Conference.
4. Dr. K Venugopal from Kerala. He completed his MBBS from TD Medical College, Alappuzha and PG from Calicut Medical College. He pursued his MHA-PGDHHA from the University of Kerala. He has a diploma in counselling psychology. He has conducted more than 400 free medical camps and special medical camps during floods, tsunamis, and Chikungunya break out. He got more than 20 awards and 42 paper presentations to his credit. He worked for a TB control program for more than 10 years.
5. Dr. Vijay Kumar Ahuja from Punjab. He pursued his MBBS, PG and MD from Gov. Medical College Patiala. He organized and participated in more than 60 children's medical camps. He promoted breastfeeding and adolescent health programs from 2003 to 2023. He worked in the police line for the benefit of the wards of the police.
EMINENT DOCTOR PERSONALITY AWARD:
1. Dr. Zameer Pasha A from Tamil Nadu. He completed his MBBS from Madurai MCH and PG from Thanjavur MCH. He is the author of comprehensive laparoscopy surgery textbooks. He also worked for more than 25 medical camps and artificial limp projects benefiting more than 120 people annually. He is a past governor of the International Rotary.
SENIOR CITIZEN AWARD:
1. Dr. Savio De Pinto Souza from Goa. He completed his MBBS and PG from Goa MCH. He conducted many awareness programs on diabetes, COVID 19, alcoholism and AIDs. He also visited jail several times for the healthcare of prisoners.
SPECIAL EMINENT DOCTOR PERSONALITY:
1. Dr. Sanjay Jaswal, member of Parliament.
2. Dr. Darshana Deshmukh, member of the legislative assembly.
Dr. Sharad Kumar Agarwal, National President, IMA addressed the audience and reminded everyone about IMA's no-tolerance policy regarding violence against medical professionals. In a press release, IMA members stated, " We started the Doctors Day Celebration from 25th June, 2023, IMA HQs re-launched Aao Gaon Chalen Project, which is a dream project of our Chief Patron, Dr Ketan Desai. Under this Project, IMA has adopted around 800 villages in all over the country and did health services in all their villages."
" We are also conducting Blood Donation Awareness Week from 1st July to 7th July in different parts of the country. We have requested all our State and Local branches to conduct these Blood donation camps in their areas so as to reduce the huge gap between demand and supply of blood and blood related components. It is our commitment that no patient should die due to the lack of availability of the blood. On behalf of 4 lakh members of IMA, IMA is committed for the welfare of the society and community for serving them as always," it further added.
