Ahmedabad: Three days before the NEET UG re-examination, a 17 year old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of a residential apartment building in the New Ranip area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad.

According to the police, the preliminary investigation has not found any clear reason behind the boy's extreme step. There was no indication that he had shared any concerns or stress related to the cancellation of the NEET exam due to the paper leak. Family members have also denied that he was under any pressure to perform well in the examination.

The incident took place at around 2.30 am on Wednesday in a 14-storey residential complex where the student lived with his mother and younger brother. The boy reportedly cut through the pigeon net from the window and jumped from his flat.

His body was discovered by the building's security guard, who noticed the teenager lying in the compound below and immediately alerted residents and family members. He was rushed to the hospital, but due to severe internal injuries, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following his death, the police sent his body for a postmortem and recorded the statement of the boy's family members. The uncle of the deceased student claimed that he had recently filled out the form for the pharmacy course..

According to the investigators, the teenager was a committed NEET-UG aspirant who had scored 85% in his Class 12 examinations in 2025. He had also appeared for NEET-UG that year and this year as well. As a backup plan, he had also applied for pharmacy courses.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Assistant Commissioner of police, L Division, DV Rana said, "We recorded the statement of the boy's maternal uncle and found that he had recently filled the form for a pharmacy course as well. He said that the boy had done well in the previous year's NEET and was confident of doing well this time as well. He has also told us that the boy showed confidence and there was no sign of him under pressure."

A case of suicide has been registered by the police, and they have seized the boy's laptop and study material as part of the investigation into the case.

"The boy had appeared for the NEET examination on May 3 and told his family that he had performed well. He did not share with anyone, including his parents, maternal uncle, or any other person, that he was under stress or worried after the examination was cancelled," the Sabarmati Police stated in a press note.
