2 MBBS interns of Sonipat's medical college molested on campus, FIR registered after students protest

Sonipat: Several MBBS students staged a protest on the campus of Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women, Khanpur Kalan, after two female MBBS interns were reportedly molested in two separate incidents.

The protest was organised after students claimed that the police failed to reach the college campus and take action even two hours after being alerted about the incidents.

In response to the agitation, the police later registered a case based on the MBBS intern’s complaint and launched an investigation. It has also been reported that one of the accused has been arrested.

As per a latest media report by  Bhaskar, both incidents took place on the campus of BPS Government Medical College in Khanpur Kalan within a span of around 30 minutes on the night of August 15.

The first incident allegedly took place around 10.30 pm when an MBBS intern was heading towards the hostel with a cup of tea after finishing her duty. At the time, a young man behind the hostel suddenly covered her mouth and scuffled with her. The intern suffered scratches on her neck during the incident. After she raised an alarm, the accused reportedly fled from the spot.

The second incident took place around 11 pm near the hostel when another intern was on her way from the library to the hostel, and a young man was allegedly following her. He then grabbed her from behind, pressed her mouth and throat and started touching her private parts. The accused fled after the intern raised an alarm, adds the daily.

Following the two separate incidents, the students immediately informed the college authorities and the police for help. However, students alleged that despite waiting for two hours, neither the college administration nor the police reached the spot to help them

After this, they called the Durga Shakti police team deployed for patrolling, but students claimed that the team reached the campus around 1 AM.

Angered over the alleged negligence, the students started protesting on campus that very night. A female student shared a video saying that there was not even proper lighting on campus and that no guard was deployed nearby either.

Following this, the police registered a case against unknown persons based on one MBBS intern's complaint and started an investigation. 

Meanwhile, the Students Welfare Society has claimed that students identified one of the accused and that he was caught while allegedly hiding in bushes after the incident and is currently in police custody.
