J&K: MBBS exams from August; medicos cry foul

The decision of holding the exams has raised concerns among the medical students noting the steep rise in the number of COVID cases and all of the educational institutions being closed yet.

According to a recent media report in Greater Kashmir, while many of the students, with many of the areas of Jammu and Kashmir being declared as Red zone by the administration, the students are unwilling to appear for the examination amidst the pandemic condition, many of them also informed that transportation facility is unavailable in many of the containment zones. At a time like this when many of the students have informed the authorities about the incapability of submitting the assignments due to the ban on high-speed internet, appearing for the examination is an impossibility.

Vice-Chancellor Jammu University, Manoj Kumar Dhar informed that the decision about holding exams was taken by Dean, GMC Jammu and the varsity is only responsible for conducting the exam."They proposed the date sheet and only they can decide whether to postpone it. Our job is to only conduct the exams", he added.

Notably, KU and Jammu University have been designated as examination conducting body for the MBBS students who are pursuing MBBS courses at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and GMC Jammu respectively.

Commenting on the necessity of conducting the exams, he further added "If we will postpone the exams then the same students will blame the University for delaying completion of their degrees and accuse us for ruining their career. There is no problem in holding the exams."
