Dhanbad Nursing Home Fire: Doctor couple, 4 others killed due to asphyxiation
Dhanbad: In a tragic incident, a massive fire broke out at an Arti Memorial nursing home in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, at least six people including a doctor couple Dr Vikas Hazra and Dr Prema Hazra were killed early this morning on Saturday.
At least six people, including two doctors, were killed in a fire in a private nursing home in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad on Saturday, an official said.
The deceased include the medical establishment’s owner Dr Vikas Hazra, his wife Dr Prema Hazra, the owner’s nephew Sohan Khamari and domestic help Tara Devi.
A fire broke out at the store room of the nursing home-cum-private house in the Bank More area of Dhanbad, around 170 km from Ranchi, around 2 am, he said.
Following this, the fire department was contacted and two fire engines came to the spot. The firefighters rescued 9 patients from both sides of the hospital and the rescued patients were admitted to the adjacent Pataliputra nursing facility. The cause of the blaze is said to be a short circuit.
As per a media report in Republic World, The staff of the fire department stated that no particular security measures had been taken to stop the fire at the hospital. Security shortcomings were highlighted by the fact that even the antifire machine was inactive.
Four deceased have been identified, while the fifth person is yet to be identified, Dhanbad Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Kumar Tiwary told PTI.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his condolences over Twitter, "Deeply saddened by the news of the death of 6 people, including the famous doctor couple dr. Vikas and dr. Prema hazra, in the late night fire at hazra memorial hospital in Dhanbad. May god grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this difficult hour of grief."
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and further investigation is underway.
