Mangaluru medical students injured after car collides with electric pole
Mangaluru: In a near-death experience, a couple of medical students suffered minor injuries in a road accident after their car collided with an electric pole causing the pole to break and overturn the car at Babbukatte, Thokkottu.
The car accident occurred on Saturday night when the students from a Medical College at Deralakatte were on their way to Deralakatte from Thokkottu. Despite the severity of the accident, the medical students escaped death when passersby rescued them from the overturned car.

It was alleged that they saw a tipper truck in front of them and attempted to overtake the truck, but at the same time, the truck driver made a right turn. To avoid a collision with the truck, the car driver made a sharp left turn and lost control of the vehicle. Subsequently, the car collided with an electric pole, crashed into the iron fencing on the roadside, and overturned. Due to the impact of the collision, the high-tension electricity pole was broken resulting in a power outage for the surrounding area till Sunday afternoon, as reported by Udayavani.
After locals witnessed the accident, they informed the police. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported and all the students sustained minor injuries. The car was removed from the scene around noon on Sunday, and a new electricity pole was installed.
The city south traffic police station registered a case in this regard and an investigation is underway.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that 5 final year MBBS students of a private medical college in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy, who went to Nagercoil to attend a wedding, drowned in the sea off the Rajakkamangalam Lemur Beach on Monday morning.
According to the police, all five deceased medicos, two women and three men house surgeons, were final-year students of Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. One of the victims was from Andhra Pradesh, and the other four were from Tamil Nadu, all in the age group of 23-24 years. The police said all bodies have been recovered.
