Medical Student Allegedly Gangraped in Mysuru, Police launches probe
Mysuru: In a shocking incident, a medical student, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly gang-raped in the outskirts of Mysuru, near Lalitadripura by few unidentified people.
The student, who was pursuing her medical education in a private medical college in Mysuru was riding pillion with her male friend when the incident took place.
PTI reports that a few people waylaid them on Thursday when they were on their way to Chamundi Hills. The gang initially demanded money, but when they found nothing, attacked her friend and dragged her to a place where they committed the crime, police said.
Both were rushed to a private hospital sometime between 1 am and 1.30 am. The rape victim was brought to the hospital in a critical condition, adds UNI.
Based on the complaint of the medico, a case of gang rape has been registered against unknown people, police added.

The Mysuru police commissioner Dr. Chandragupta visited the spot and formed multiple teams to probe the case.
Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters in Delhi that he has directed the Director General of Police Praveen Sood to initiate steps to nab the culprits.
"Based on the statement, a case has been registered. I have directed the DGP that whoever has perpetrated it, they should be identified and stringent action should be taken against them," Bommai said.
Terming the incident "unfortunate", Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday told ANI, "The girl was gang-raped and hospitalised, while the boy was beaten badly. It's an unfortunate incident. My government has taken it very seriously. The perpetrators will be caught soon and brought to justice."
State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said he has directed the police to conduct a thorough inquiry and take stern action.
Citing a preliminary report, he said four persons were involved in the crime.
The Minister said he would visit Mysuru on Thursday.
Responding to media persons, she said the commission has taken note of the incident and lodged a complaint with the police.
Since the rape victim is in a state of shock, Prameela said the women's commission would pay all her medical bills and provide counseling to her. "I have spoken to the district legal cell to provide them necessary legal help also," she added.
