Set up AIIMS in Twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad: KCCI to Union Health Ministry

Hubbali: The North Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hubli has in a letter, urged the Union Health Minister, Dr Harsha Vardhan to set up one of the Six All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) proposed in the Union Budget, in the Twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.

The letter stated that establishing of such an Institute in Hubli-Dharwad, not only will go a long way in meeting the aspirations of the people of North Karnataka region, but will also help support development of advanced medical facilities here, as well as, academically connected medical research centre will also help develop this area as a medical and Edcuational Hub.

Setting up of such an Institute in the Twin cities will also be a boon to the people of North Karnataka region who are currently deprived of advanced medical facilities, for which they are currently depending on cities like Bangalore and Mumbai which are far off to reach in Emergency and not affordable too to the people, whose per capita income is lowest when compared to southern part of Karnataka and South India, the letter added.

Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and industry, Mahendra Ladhad, further added in the letter that the Twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad, the biggest in Karnataka after Bangalore, is logistically well placed to establish such an Institute for the overall benefit of the people entire north Karnataka region. The Twin cities also are well connected by Rail, Road, and by Air to other parts of the country. The two cities are also potentially growing in providing medical facilities in medical tourism, he added.

In a similar letter to Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister for Parliamentary affairs, Coal and Mines, Ladhad urged the minister, who hails from Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency, to use his good offices to help establish one of the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the twin Cities.
