22 year old Kerala medical student allegedly killed by classmate in Uzbekistan, accused arrested

Kottayam: In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old first-year medical student from Kerala was allegedly killed by her classmate in Uzbekistan after he allegedly struck her on the head with a laptop following an argument.

As per media reports, both students study at Bukhara State Medical Institute. While the deceased was a native of Haripad, Alappuzha, the accused, a 23-year-old, hails from Malappuram, also from Kerala.

The accused is reported to be the friend of the deceased. The deceased had travelled to Uzbekistan in early December to pursue her MBBS degree at Bukhara State Medical Institute.

The incident took place on Friday during a conversation between the two. The relatives alleged that the accused became angry during the argument and hit her on the head with a laptop. She reportedly lost consciousness and suffered a severe head injury in the attack, which resulted in internal bleeding. She was rushed to a hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries, as per TOI

Following her death, the accused was arrested on the same day and is currently in the custody of Uzbek police. The police authorities have launched an investigation into the case. 

After receiving news of the tragedy, the student's uncle, who works in Dubai, travelled to Uzbekistan. Her father, who is employed in Kuwait, also returned to Kerala after learning about his daughter's death.

UNI reported that the body of the deceased student has been brought to New Delhi. Authorities in Uzbekistan have launched an investigation into the incident, while further legal proceedings are underway. 

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a fifth-year MBBS student from Rajasthan committed suicide inside his university hostel in Kazakhstan. The deceased, a native of the Sikar district in Rajasthan, was studying at Karaganda Medical University. He reportedly jumped from one of the upper floors of his hostel building to end his life.
