Thrissur: In a significant boost to the state's healthcare services, 26 new projects worth Rs 40 crore have been inaugurated in Thrissur Medical College Hospital. Health Minister Veena George visited the facility and inaugurated the trauma care and triage building at Thrissur Medical College Hospital on Friday.

In total, 26 projects have been commissioned and implemented at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital under the 100-day action plan of the government. The new projects included trauma care and triage building, a burn injury treatment unit, an MRI scan facility, and a day-care unit for children of working mothers, reports The Hindu.

The Government Medical College Thrissur, established in 1982, is one of the leading centres in medical education in Kerala, India. With a history of 25 years of meritorious medical care, the institution celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2007.

A few days ago, Kerala health minister Veena George announced that the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) released Rs 605 crore for the renovation of eight hospitals in the state. The Kerala government has constantly made efforts to improve the healthcare infrastructure. As the Pinarayi Vijayan government completes two years, the Departments of Health, Women, and Child Development have come up with new projects to revolutionize the medical sector. 

As a part of Nava Kerala Karma Plan II, it was ensured that basic development, preparation of modern treatment systems, ensuring health care, disease eradication activities etc. A great start and progress have been made in realizing the dream of Digital Kerala Health. DHS, DME, and DMO offices have been converted into e-offices. Out of 589 hospitals, eHealth Hospitals. 227 Paperless Hospitals. OP ticket booking and lab results have started to be arranged online. Also, the budget allocation for the health sector in 2016 is 665 crores. Now it has more than quadrupled to Rs 2,828 crore.
