Compound wall construction issue: Kerala medicos to form human chain to press their demand

The local residents of the area, the college students and staff had earlier locked horns over the construction of the compound wall. The latter have been favoring the construction citing security reasons like assault against women, vehicle theft, dumping of garbage etc. The chairperson of the college students' union had told The Hindu that the construction was allegedly blocked to protect certain people and their narrow interests.

The residents forum however alleged that they have been protesting against the blocking of the road. Moozhikkal-Medical College Pipeline Road Protection Committee members, told The Hindu that they opposed to the sealing and cutting of the road rather than the construction of the compound wall since the road is used by many people .

The road in contention is the Moozhikkal-Medical College Pipeline Road which is a part of a proposed 12 metre wide ring road project from Moozhikkal to Kovoor, used by many people including students from Kakkodi, Kuruvattur, and Palath which is now blocked.

The committee members also said that the construction of the wall could also lead to increased traffic on adjacent roads as patients would only be allowed to enter through one entrance, since the demands of the residents for entry from another special gate was dismissed by the HC and critical patients would not be able to reach on time.
