Kerala: A long-sought demand of the Medical College Hospital (MCH) doctors concerning a revision in the pay scale finally saw daylight as the amendment has now been implemented in the pay structure by the Kerala state cabinet.

Retrospectively, the cabinet on August 26 decided to implement the pay revision for the faculties of medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and non-medical streams in the state.

The non-practising allowance and patient care allowance were kept for the medical and dental doctors as decided by the authorities. The medical college hospital doctors (faculties) had received a revision in their pay scale in 2006 and the next revision was supposed to take place in 2016.

Hence, the government has now implemented the revision with a retrospective effect since 1st January 2016.

The medical college doctors were demanding a revision in their pay scale and they condemned the delay in implementing the review of the pay scale. They alleged that all other government employees including medical practitioners have been benefited as the government implemented revision in the pay structure and their pay structure had been revised twice since 2006, reports TOI.

At a time like this when the medical community has been extending their service day and night to handle the pandemic scenario and the medical college doctors and faculty members are also serving as frontline workers, considering their interests are of utter importance.

Considering their long-standing demands, the state union cabinet has implemented the pay revision for the faculty members serving in different fields like medical, dental, paramedical, nursing, and pharmacy of medical colleges.

In 2019, Health Minister KK Shailaja had conversations with service organization doctors after which a proposal regarding the revision of the pay structure of the medical college doctors was made. Later, a final proposal was submitted to the financial department as well and finally, in 2020, August now the state cabinet union has implemented a revision in pay structure.
