Kerala: In a case of cheating, a Kerala based doctor has been duped of a whopping amount of Rs 45 crore after two conmen allegedly promised him to help him get a loan of 5000 Crore from non-resident Indians (NRIs) in order to expand his father's private hospital into a multispeciality one.
According to a recent report by the TOI, the duo allegedly asked for a 10% commission from the doctor in order to organize the loan of Rs 5000 crore. But after paying almost 45 Crores to the duo when the doctor tried to contact them to confirm the progress regarding the loan, they allegedly stopped responding.
After this, the doctor approached the police and filed a complaint. The duo was arrested on Saturday and the court has sent them to prison.
The two accused, one heralding from Chennai and the other from Bengaluru were approached by the doctor as he needed a loan for his father's health facility. As per
Times of India the complainant informed the police that his father is an owner of a private hospital in Kerala and he was planning to develop the facility into a multispeciality hospital. A large amount of loan was needed in order to convert the facility into a multispeciality one. The doctor also approached many banks and private firms to secure a fund of 5000 Crore for the purpose but in vain.
The doctor then approached the duo through a common friend and they promised the doctor that they will be arranging the amount via loans through some NRIs. The duo asked the doctor to pay 10% of the amount in advance as commission. The doctor transferred the money into their bank accounts in installments. However, after paying them almost 45 crores when the doctor tried to contact them in order to obtain the loan, the duo allegedly stopped responding to the doctor, the daily adds.
When the doctor could not have any contact with them, he approached the police and filed a complaint. Police started searching for the accused and finally, traced one of them at his home in Chennai. Police also received a tip regarding the whereabouts of the second accused who was residing in Bangalore and then were able to arrest the duo.
