MBBS admission fraud: MR duped of Rs 4.5 lakh, accused arrested
Ujjain: In an MBBS admission fraud case, an individual duped a Medical Representative by falsely promising to secure admission for his son at a Medical College in Bihar. A case regarding this matter has been registered at the Nilganga Police Station.
However, the accused has been apprehended and is currently in the custody of the Kanpur Police. He will soon be brought to Ujjain for interrogation.
According to the AmarUjala media news report, the complainant wanted to secure admission for his son into an MBBS course. His brother's son is currently pursuing his MBBS studies at Satna Medical College.
On February 15, the accused, who hails from West Bengal, informed him that, according to a college professor, a seat was vacant at a medical college located in Katihar, Bihar. Subsequently, he provided a fake mobile number, claiming it belonged to the Principal of the concerned Medical College.
During the conversation, it was informed that a seat under the NRI quota had become vacant due to the death of a student. A package containing detailed information regarding the seat was sent via email addressed to the Principal, while the NEET scorecard, Aadhaar card, and academic marksheets were requested via WhatsApp.
Along with this, two bank account numbers were provided, one of which was claimed to belong to the college. He deposited ₹25,000 into the college's account and ₹4.25 lakh into the other account.
Following this, on February 19, the family arrived in Katihar and met with the actual Principal there. He informed them that there were no vacant seats in the college, nor had any fees been deposited.
Subsequently, the college investigated the matter, which revealed that a sum of ₹25,000 had been deposited. The Principal stated that a claim would have to be filed in court for this amount, after which the money would be refunded.
Upon realising that he had been defrauded, he lodged a complaint at the Nilganga Police Station. The police have also registered a case of fraud against the account holder associated with the accused.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Yaduvendra Parihar of the Neelganga Police Station stated that the phone number used for communication did not belong to the actual principal.
Police investigations have revealed that the accused had been arrested by the Kanpur Police just two days ago in connection with another case of fraud. He is currently being interrogated. A team from the Ujjain Police will be dispatched to Kanpur to bring him here for questioning.
