Mumbai: In a shocking case from Maharashtra, 4 private hospitals refused to provide admission and treatment to a 22 year old doctor, as they suspected him to be suffering from coronavirus.

While Medical dialogues team could not verify the case, The New Indian Express has reported the same in detail adding that the doctor who was studying in Kolhapur had come to his hometown Bhusawal from Pune. Here, he complained of fever but when tried to approach private hospitals for treatment, he was refused admission, as doctors suspected his fever to be due to coronavirus

"We were shocked to see how doctors treated a member of their own fraternity. They should have given him at least primary treatment. After knocking the door of private hospitals, at the end of the day, we went to a government hospital as well. But there also the doctor told us they do not have facilities to treat coronavirus patients. They declared him corona positive without taking his blood samples," social activist Pratibha Shinde told the Indian Express.

The saga apparently continued and the doctor was refused by 5 different hospitals, when the kin finally decided to take him to Mumbai, 400 kms away. Here he was admitted to Sir JJ Hospital and is currently on vetillator

Dr TP Lahane, director of DMER and former dean of Sir JJ Hospital, discussing the case told New Indian Express, "We are putting in all efforts to save his life. This is a dog bite case and seems to be at the last stage but we are trying very hard."

India has reported a total of 195 coronavirus positive cases so far with 4 deaths due to the disease. On Friday, Maharashtra reported three new cases of coronavirus, taking its total to 52 --highest in the country.

Globally the death toll rose to 10,048 on Friday, with Italy surpassing China in the number of deaths due to the disease
