Dr Ravi Chavan becomes new Dean of IGGMCH Nagpur

Nagpur: In a recent development, Dr Ravi Chavan has been appointed as the new Dean of the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) in Nagpur. 

The Medical Education and Research Department of Maharashtra has recently issued an order. Dr. Ravi Chavan, presently serving as the Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at IGGMCH, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Dr Chavan has completed his MBBS and MS from IGGMCH. Being an alumnus of the institution, he has been intricately connected to the hospital and college since his student years. Previously Dr Sanjay Bijwe was serving as the Dean of the institute. Following the transfer of Dr Sanjay Bijwe, the position of Dean had been vacant until temporarily assumed by Critical Care Specialist Dr Radha Munje. Dr Munje had served as the Medical Superintendent during Dr Sanjay Bijwe's deanship.
Dr Chavan's familiarity with IGGMCH extends to the minutest details, and he has showcased leadership in various capacities, particularly during the challenging times of the coronavirus pandemic. His contributions extend beyond medical expertise, including significant involvement in various construction projects at IGGMCH. Dr Chavan also played a crucial role in resolving medicine shortages at the institution, reports the Daily.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in response to the protests by resident doctors of Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Hospital alleging academic irregularities at the Ophthalmology Department of the Institute, the State Government accepted the resignation of Dr T P Lahane as the coordinator of Preventable Blindness Free Maharashtra Mission. Moreover, r
eplacing the previous head of the Ophthalmology Department, as per the new order, Dr Ravi Chavan, an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Indira Gandhi Govt Medical College Nagpur was appointed for the post. 
In response to the crisis at Mumbai's J J Hospital following the resignation of Padma Shri Dr T P Lahane, the Government entrusted Dr Chavan with a mission for damage control, reports Nagpur Today. Additionally, Dr Chavan was actively engaged in the development plan of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital and Research Institute on Kamptee Road.
