Latur: A farmer from Maharashtra's Latur district has alleged that his 18-year-old daughter, who aspired to become a doctor, died by suicide due to mental stress caused after the cancellation of the NEET 2026 was announced.

NEET 2026 was conducted on May 3. However, the exam was soon cancelled over an alleged paper leak and a re-exam was announced. This came in the backdrop of the probe by the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group, which reportedly found a “guess paper” containing more than 100 questions similar to those asked in the NEET UG examination. The question paper series under scrutiny has been described as a “guess paper” which reportedly contained around 410 questions. Out of these, nearly 120 questions are alleged to have appeared in the Biology and Chemistry sections of the examination.

CBI is currently investigating the case.

Now, according to latest PTI report, a farmer from Latur has claimed that his daughter died after NEET 2026 cancellation. Police said they have registered an accidental death report and launched a probe into the farmer's allegation.

According to the police, the aspirant from Gondegaon village, allegedly hanged herself from a tree at their farm on the morning of May 16. Her post-mortem and other legal formalities were done, said officials.

Her 50-year-old father, submitted a statement to the police on Sunday, claiming that his daughter, who appeared for the NEET-UG held on May 3, had been under severe mental stress after the exam was cancelled following a paper leak controversy.

He said his daughter dreamt of becoming a doctor.

He claimed she had told her family members that despite preparing well and performing satisfactorily in the exam, the cancellation left her disturbed and anxious about her future. She was unable to handle the stress and ended her life, he said in the statement.
