MBBS Student Drowns in Canal in Maharashtra

Gondia: In a tragic incident, two young men, including an MBBS student, drowned while bathing in a canal in Salekasa tehsil recently. The incident occurred near Limbatola village in the Pujaritola dam canal, a popular yet risky spot during the summer.

The victims, identified as Prashant Narendra Patle and Pratik Daulat Bisen were reportedly swept away by a sudden strong current while bathing. Bisen was pursuing his MBBS studies.

Speaking on the incident, police officials informed PTI, "Two young men including a medical student drowned while bathing in a canal in Salekasa tehsil of the district on Friday. The incident took place around 12 noon in the Pujaritola dam canal near Limbatola village. The deceased were identified as Prashant Narendra Patle (21) and Pratik Daulat Bisen (21), both residents of Gorre village. Pratik Bisen was an MBBS student."

Their friend Sumit tried to save them but was swept away himself due to the strong current, the official said, adding he could luckily grab a tree branch and save himself.

The bodies of the two men were recovered 100 metres away from the spot where they had drowned, said District Disaster Management Officer Rajan Choubey.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that two MBBS students of SRM Medical College, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, drowned in the Arabian Sea at Gokarna in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district. The two medicos had been identified as Kanimozhi and Hinduja, both aged 23. They were final-year MBBS students.

The students went on a trip to Dandeli-Gokarna and Murdeshwara in Uttara Kannada with a 23-member student group after giving their final MBBS exams. The trip was organised by Chennai-based Vettri Tours and Travels. After visiting Dandeli and Vibhuti Falls near Yana, the students visited Gokarna. However, while watching the sunset at Jatayu Teerth near Kudle Beach in Gokarna, both students were swept away due to the strong current on April 24 at around 5.30 p.m.
