Manipur cabinet to upgrade healthcare facilities
Imphal: Manipur Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday decided to strengthen the state's health infrastructure by upgrading facilities and adding new ones.
The Cabinet also resolved to give ex-gratia to the accident victims of the Khoupum road accident which occurred on December 21 in which nine persons died.

Health and IPR Minister Dr. S. Ranjan Singh said that the Cabinet has decided to upgrade Primary Health Centre, PHC, Jesami to Community Health Centre, Luwangsangbam Primary Health Sub-Centre to Primary Health Centre, PHC. The Cabinet also decided to upgrade PHC, Tamei to CHC.
The Minister informed that Urban Primary Health Center, Sagolband will be established by creating the required number of posts.
Thirty staff will be recruited for Tele Manas, which was opened at RIMS will be recruited. Required faculty posts will be created for ChurachandpurMedical College, CMC, Churachandpur, he added.

Biren Singh said his government is giving priority to the health education sector and plans to set up medical colleges in some more districts. The state government initiative is a follow-up of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for setting up medical colleges in every district of the country, N Biren said during the inauguration of a new wing of a private hospital. With the increase in the MBBS seats from 100 to 150 at JNIMS and the opening of Churachandpur Medical College with 100 MBBS seats, the state can now produce around 500 MBBS in a year.
