Manipur: Health Minister launches SUMAN scheme to help every woman and newborn

Imphal: Manipur Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh have launched Surakshit Matritva Aswasan (SUMAN) Scheme at CHC Wangoi, Imphal West.

Operation theatre was also opened at the CHC.

The central scheme will help in providing quality health care at no cost to every woman and newborn.

Ranjan said that it is a landmark achievement of the department to make the operation theatre operational and the SUMAN scheme implemented in the centre. The new activity will now benefit the people residing in and around Wangoi. 

Ranjan said that the primary healthcare system needs to be focused on since it is the foundation of the tertiary healthcare system. For a better healthcare delivery system, better grass-root healthcare service is necessary.

In this regard, the commitment of the health care professionals is very much required. It is through the sincere and dedicated service of the health staff that the goal of global health can be achieved, he added.

Minister Ranjan said that Preventive measures may be acknowledged. Periodical tests and regular health check-ups are necessary for keeping better health.

Appropriate policies to achieve the best health care service in the state will be chalked out in consultation with the Chief Minister and other stakeholders. Required staff, machineries and infrastructures of CHC, Wangoi will be provided on a priority basis, he informed.

Minister also visited different departments and inspected the infrastructure and facilities of the Health Centre. He also interacted with the doctors and staff of the centre. 

Medical Dialogues team had earlier published that the Manipur State Government has decided to increase the free hospitalization benefit under the Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) schemes upto five lakh rupees per family per year. The Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme is a health assurance scheme initiated by the Government of India.
