Imphal: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has seen a revolutionary change with the best machines installed one after another to become one of the best healthcare institutes in the country.

On Saturday, RIMS Director Prof Ahanthem Santa inaugurated two new CT Scan machines at RIMS. Prof Santa said the primary concern of the institute is to save life and help the patients of the state. Doctors in RIMS had to refer patients requiring crucial tests including CT scans to other centres earlier but now two machines have been installed one at Trauma centre and another at the OPD block.

Doctors and nurses were helpless as critical tests could not be done immediately in RIMS and patients had to be moved from one place to another which was not advisable, Prof Santa said. The CT Scan installed at the OPD is one the best and detailed reports are available without troubling the patient.

High-tech machinery will be installed one after another and RIMS will now soon provide one of the best medical care facilities he said. Prof Santa narrated the struggle and service of those handling the machines at odd hours and for long hours uninterruptedly due to the large numbers of patients who come to the hospital. Most of the treatments and tests are done by taking a nominal fee.

Prof Santa said the main satisfying matter is the ability to serve and provide better health care. Serving as head of the institute in a place like Manipur, one can do a lot as there was not much infrastructure. The RIMS has expanded and upgraded at a pace never seen before, it has a fully functional dental college, and nursing institute. With the opening of a trauma centre and opening of a new emergency centre for children, patients get better service as earlier all were rushing to the casualty.

The newly established MRI centre and the upgrades of all the departments like medicine, psychiatry, neurology, dermatology etc have to be maintained as cleanliness and hygiene are extremely important he said. Every new construction has a clean toilet and drainage system also, he said.

Prof N Sanjib, Superintendent said the staff handling the tests need to be lauded and honoured as they were working for long hours. During the Covid pandemic, the RIMS was one such institute which modernized its infrastructure and provided the best facilities he said.

Dr Subash of the Radiodiagnosis department said the Director has assured to increase the staff including senior residents to meet the demands. Every department refers to the unit for diagnosis resulting in an inability to conduct tests immediately due to a shortage of staff, he said.

Eminent personalities of the state, and leaders of various organizations, attended the function.
