Odisha: Doctor injured after drunk man attacks medico with knife

Bhubaneswar: A doctor was attacked with a knife by a drunk youth after a verbal altercation broke out between the two over a minor road accident in Jagamara area of Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The medico identified as Ashutosh Pradhan, who works at a Covid hospital in Koraput sustained injuries in hand during the incident that took place on August 16. The doctor was on his bike when his vehicle collided with the accused's car. The youth, who was intoxicated entered a heated argument with the doctor demanding money claiming that his car got damaged during the collision.

The matter escalated and the man pulled out a knife from his car and tried to attack the doctor in his stomach. However, the doctor suffered injuries in his hand and managed to call the PCR.

Narrating the ordeal, the doctor told OdishaTv, "I was travelling towards Khandagiri on my friend's bike at around 4.15 pm. When I came across a humps and applied brake, a white colour Ford hit me from behind. Soon a youth came out of the car and demanded money saying the car was damaged in the collision".

The doctor stated that the driver of the car was in an inebriate condition. When the doctor protested, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife from the car and attacked him. "He tried to stab me in my stomach, but the knife hit my hand", added the doctor.

The doctor stated that though the incident took place during the daytime, in the middle of a busy street none came to rescue him. "I was frightened and stood at a distance before dialing the PCR. People were present there, but they turned mute spectators. Though the PCR van reached there, the response time was high," the doctor told the daily.

A complaint was lodged at the Khandagiri police station. On the basis of the complaint, Khandagiri police caught hold of the accused, who is said to be a native of Jagamara.
