Cuttack: Associate Professor of the Department of Medicine, SCB Medical College Hospital has recently become the center of attention as the Orissa High Court traces back a series of fake documents and medical certificates submitted for interim bail.

As per a recent media report in The New Indian Express, the documents were submitted by four people namely Satya Bagarti, Sriram Kanhar, Saroj Nag, and Chandramani Kanhar. The four of them were arrested in a case of ganja smuggling in Phulbani town of Kandhamal district. The case against them had been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

They applied for interim bail on grounds that the wives of the petitioners were suffering from multiple types of diseases. They submitted medical certificates along with their pleas. The certificate had been issued by one Dr. SK Bhoi, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, of SCB Medical College Hospital.

In the case of Chandramani Kanhar, the affidavits were sworn by one Gumesh Mallik. Sriram's wife Manasi Kanhar, on the other hand, sworn the affidavit for her husband.

The State Council, however, was not convinced with the application. Thus, the court ordered an inquiry by the police.

As per the inquiry report submitted by DCP (Cuttack) on Wednesday, all the medical documents submitted along with the bail application by four people have been found to be false.

The bogus medical certificates were issued by one Dr SK Bhoi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, SCB Medical College Hospital. However, on probing it was ascertained that there was no doctor in any rank working in the department as Dr SK Bhoi.

Subsequently, the report concluded that the medical documents enclosed with the interim applications were forged and fabricated, reports The New Indian Express.

After the submission of the police inquiry report, the bench of Justice SK Sahoo ordered immediate steps to arrest the accused involved with the fabrication of the documents and produce them before the court of Sessions-cum-Special Judge, Phulbani on December 21. The inspector in charge of Phulbani Town police station has been reportedly given the task of producing the accused before the court on the given date.
