Renowned Surgeon Dr Sailesh Kumar takes charge as AIIMS Bhubaneswar President

Bhubaneswar: Renowned surgeon Dr Sailesh Kumar has taken the helm as the newly appointed president of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar.
Dr Kumar, a distinguished figure in the medical field, currently holds the position of Professor in the Surgery department at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi.
Apart from his role at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Dr Kumar adds to his portfolio by serving as a senior member of the governing body of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. His extensive experience and expertise in the medical domain make him a fitting choice for leading the prestigious institution in Bhubaneswar.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in a notification on Monday, stated, “In exercise of the power conferred by section 7 (1) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956, as amended by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act, 2012, the Central Government hereby nominates Dr Sailesh Kumar as President of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar.” The notification is signed by Ankita Misra Bundela, Joint Secretary to the Government of India.
Dr Shailesh Kumar is affiliated with Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. He provides preoperative and postoperative care to surgical patients and performs surgeries for hernias, gallbladder, thyroid, breast, stomach etc.
As of March 2023, Dr Akhysa Kumar Bisoi is the president of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar is one of the apex healthcare Institutes established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY).
Under this scheme six new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established at Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur and Rishikesh apart from the one at New Delhi.
