'Be polite, improve cleanliness', says Punjab health department to govt employees

Faridkot: The department of health and family welfare in Punjab has instructed all civil surgeons and medical superintendents in the state to ensure polite behavior of medical staff with patients, along with improving the cleanliness standard in the hospitals. 

The direction comes a day after Bhagwant Mann was sworn-in as the chief minister of Punjab, after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the assembly elections in the state, reports the Hindustan Times.

The directions were issued by the Director, health and family welfare, Gurinder Bir Singh to the civil surgeons of all districts and the medical superintendents of three government medical colleges at Amritsar, Patiala, and Faridkot. 

He directed them to make sure that all employees remain punctual and directed them to improve the standard of cleanliness in the hospitals. He said, "The arrangements should be made to ensure availability of free medicine and tests for the patients at the hospitals. Wearing uniforms must be made mandatory for the hospital staff. Ensure all doctors and paramedical staff should wear white coats. All medical staff must be wearing identity cards during their duty hours at the hospitals and offices."

He further added that the medical staff should behave politely with the patients and attendants of the hospital, reports the HT.  

The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that 12 MBBS doctors are all prepared to enter the Punjab assembly as elected MLAs, and nine out of them are involved with the AAP, and one each from the Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress, and Bahujan Samaj Party. The majority of these doctors had contested in the elections for the first time.

The AAP had won the Punjab Assembly elections, by a three-fourth majority, with the party securing 92 seats out of the 117 member assembly.
