PIL against recruiting non-residential nurses in JIPMER dismissed by Madras HC
Madras: A PIL against recruiting the non-residential nurses of Puducherry as temporary nurses at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has recently been dismissed by the Madras High Court.
Examining the case, a Bench of Justice M.M. Sundresh and R. Hemalath stated that local people could be given the preference in the case of future recruitment as they are familiar with the local language and Customs.
The court added, having a thorough knowledge of the language and the specifications of society, they will easily connect with the patients. It will help them to understand the problems of the patients more and will assist them in forming a trustworthy relationship with the patient, reports TH.
However, when additional Solicitor General R. Shankaranarayanan informed the court that most of the nurses are taken from Kerala and this observation of the court will create a problem for JIPMER in assigning them duties, the judges clarify that this is only a suggestion made by the court and JIPMER will be making any final decisions regarding the future recruitments.
Subsequently, the court dismissed the petition on July 21, 2020.
