Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Chief minister k Palaniswami has announced that the medical colleges and universities are going to reopen from December 7th and the physical classes for the final year medical students will commence from the same day.

The hostels will also open from the same day for the final year medicos. However, the classes for first-year college students for the coming academic session will start on February 1st. The freshers will be allowed to enter the campus only after the official commencement of first-year classes.

PTI reports that the hostels for final year UG students are permitted to open from December 7, the Chief Minister said adding that from the same day, classes for UG and postgraduate medical and para-medical courses shall begin. Classes for freshers who enroll during the current 2020-21 academic year would, however, begin from February 1, next year, he said. Also, exhibition centers would be allowed to function for 'business to business' purposes.

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) shall apply to all activities that have been allowed. Medical colleges should also strictly follow SOP before opening the institutions.  Barring those from neighboring Puducherry, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, e-registration shall continue to be applicable for people visiting Tamil Nadu from all other states. Social, political, and entertainment programs shall be allowed from December 1 to 31 after obtaining prior permission from authorities, he said. The number of participants for events at auditoriums should be confined to a maximum of 200 people or 50 percent of the total seating capacity, Palaniswami said in an official release.
The Chief Minister appealed to the public to wear masks and maintain hygiene to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He has also added that other than the containment zones, the classes for final year undergraduate students of arts, science, engineering, agriculture, fisheries, and veterinary programs in all the colleges and universities will commence from December 7th as well.
