Complaint filed over loss of 400 MBBS seats in Telangana

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, National Consumer Council General Secretary Sambaraaju Chakrapani said that as per information received from UGC, seven institutions attached to Mallareddy Medical College were converted into deemed universities on October 6, 2024. However, the health university did not issue any No objection certificates (NOC) to these institutions until November 23, 2024.

This meant that these 7 institutes became deemed universities illegally without an NOC, resulting in the loss of 400 MBBS seats. In response, the council demanded the cancellation of the status of Mallareddy Deemed University and the reallocation of 400 medical seats to deserving students.

Chakrapani emphasised that allocation of medical seats was the responsibility of the state government and urged the authorities to take swift action to address the issue and ensure that deserving students are not deprived of their rightful opportunities, reports DeccanChronicle.

Meanwhile, the council has also raised concerns over the removal of 150 medical seats from web options for another medical college despite not receiving an official order from the state government. In this regard, the council has sought clarification on the matter from the health university.
