19-year-old NEET aspirant commits suicide after losing money in online betting
Kanpur: In an unfortunate incident, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide on Friday after he lost all his personal funds and borrowed money from his friends, which he had invested in online betting.
The deceased student's body was found hanging from the ceiling in a private hostel in the Kakadeo area of the city. A suicide note was discovered on the spot, in which the student expressed regret and asked for forgiveness from his parents for taking his own life and not being able to achieve the dream of becoming a doctor.
In the suicide note, he mentioned that he had lost around Rs 9500 in online betting and asked his parents to return the money to his three friends from whom he had borrowed the money.

"Papa, mummy please forgive me, first I lost Rs 500 in online betting, gradually, I lost Rs 9,000, which I had borrowed from my three friends, please return the money. I could not become an MBBS doctor as per your dreams, papa mummy please forgive me.” read the note.
According to the police, the deceased was a native of Badaun district who was staying with his uncle in the private hostel of a coaching centre as he was preparing for the NEET examination.
The incident took place when his uncle was out of the station for work-related matters. The student's body was first discovered by his uncle when he reached home and immediately alerted the police.
Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), Central, Ram Sewak Gautam told TOI, “His uncle was out of station in connection with some important work. When he came back, he found Navneet's body hanging from the ceiling. He informed the landlord, who in turn alerted the police."
After reaching the spot, the police conducted a preliminary investigation and recovered the suicide note which shed light on the possible reasons behind his extreme step. Further, the police seized the student's mobile phone to gather any additional information and sent his suicide note for forensic investigation.
“A suicide note has been recovered from the spot in which the boy has mentioned that he is taking this extreme step due to losing money in online betting. His body has been kept in the mortuary. His parents will come on Saturday and then only his postmortem examination will be done. After that the body will be handed over to them," the DCP added.
A case has been registered in this regard and an investigation is underway.
