Kanpur Surgeon Poses as Journalist at BJP Manifesto Event, Arrested
Mumbai: A surgeon from Kanpur was recently arrested for illegally entering the Bharatiya Janta Party's (BJP) manifesto release event at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Sunday.
The 52-year-old doctor, Dr. Shakti Bhargav, allegedly entered the event posing as a journalist from a hindi newspaper and using a fake identity card. Reportedly, the doctor's intention was to highlight the alleged irregularities at Kanpur's Lal Imli Mill.
Dr. Bhargav has been remanded to BKC Police Custody till November 12 and an FIR has been filed against him under sections 125 (acts endangering personal safety or human life of others), 136 (assault or use of criminal force under grave and sudden provocation), 318 (cheating, including offenses involving valuable securities), and 319 (cheating by impersonation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Meanwhile, since Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present at the manifesto event, his security measures for the Ghatkopar rally on Tuesday was intensified further.
As per the latest media report by the Free Press Journal, posing as a journalist, the doctor entered the event and threw around 50 leaflets referencing the Kanpur Lal Imli mill worker's protest over the alleged non-payment of wages for three years.
Dr. Bhargav runs a clinic in Kanpur and as per the police, Bhargav also claims to be a property developer, FPJ has reported. He reportedly remained calm during the event before suddenly throwing the leaflets. He had traveled from Kanpur four days before the incident. Currently, the authorities are investigating how Dr. Bhargav gained knowledge of the Home Minister's schedule.
Confirming that an investigation is ongoing into the security breach, a BKC police officer told the Times of India, "A probe has been initiated to find how Bhargava managed to create the ID and enter the press conference. The accused did not create any ruckus."
Dr. Bhargava identifies himself as a "whistleblower" and this is not the first time that his name has been connected to such a controversy. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in 2019 Dr. Bhargava was detained for throwing a show at BJP leaders addressing a press conference at the party's headquarters.
He had hurled a shoe at the BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao when the latter was addressing a press conference about Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur joining the BJP, at the party's national headquarters. The shoe narrowly missed the BJP leader and hit a mic.
Back then, it was reported that Dr. Bhargava was facing inquiries by the Income Tax department in connection with buying properties, undisclosed income and unaccounted money. He was the controller of Bhargava Hospital and many other companies.
