Its condition was very poor, but in the last five years, it has turned into a state with maximum number of medical colleges in the country. This has become possible due to the guidance and inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "During 1947 to 2017, only 12 medical colleges were constructed in the state, however between 2017 to 2022, under the PM Swasthya Yojna and from the resources of the state government, 33 new medical colleges have been constructed. Of these, 17 have been made operational and work is in progress in the remaining 16.

Efforts are being made to start admissions in these medical colleges from the next academic session," he added. As per the Chief Minister, two All India Institute of Medical Sciences have also been constructed in the state during this period. "In a state like UP with 75 districts having maximum population, medical colleges have either been constructed or are under construction in 59 districts.

The state government has come up with a policy to construct medical colleges in 16 districts, where there are neither government nor private medical colleges," said Adityanath. He further said that 330-bed hospitals will be set up in two districts on PPP mode. "Both the organisations with which the MoUs have been signed today, have experience in their respective fields. They should work in a time-bound manner, so that the admissions can be started in these two medical colleges from 2024," added the Chief Minister.

As per TOI report, the Siddhi Vinayak Trust of Bareilly has agreed to start the medical college in Sambhal, Shanti Foundation Trust is the PPP partner for the hospital in Maharajganj.

Principal Secretary medical education, Alok Kumar II said: "The process to start medical colleges in the remaining underserved districts is underway. In some of them, the state will have to go in for bidding as multiple players have applied for it."
