UP: 26 medical teachers recruited at seven medical colleges
Kanpur: The state government has recruited almost 26 new medical teachers to fill in vacancies in seven medical colleges across the state. The confirmation of the news has been given by one of the officials of the medical education department.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has selected 26 faculty members and they will be posted in the medical colleges after counseling on September 15.
The new teachers belong to different disciplines. Nine of them belong to microbiology, five physiology, three plastic surgery, two anatomy, two biochemistry, and two psychiatry along with other subjects. The new recruitments were done as a measure to fill vacancies and they will be accordingly posted at the medical colleges in Banda, Budaun, Saharanpur, Jalaun, Kannauj, Azamgarh, and Ambedkar Nagar, reports Hindustan Times.
Following these new 26 recruitments, many other new recruitments are to be expected soon. The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has considered the recommendations of an expert committee, which suggested the recruitment of 10,000 teaching and non-teaching posts to ensure a sufficient workforce to conduct the graduate, post-graduate and super-specialty courses in the state's medical universities, colleges, and institutes. Taking into account the standards set by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the National Medical Commission (NMC), Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave direction to the concerned authorities to confirm the availability of minimum human resources in medical institutions and reports eHealth.
According to a daily, at least 10,000 additional posts would be created and it would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 921.65 crore per annum, stated State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the UP director general of medical education had revealed that 28.52% of posts of medical teachers or doctors had been lying vacant in 13 Uttar Pradesh medical colleges, five autonomous medical colleges, and four other medical institutions.
Further, 26 percent of doctors on duty in medical colleges of UP are not permanent staffers but were appointed on a contractual basis. For doctors and medical teachers, the total number of sanctioned posts in state government and autonomous medical colleges is 2,791. Of these, 796 posts are vacant and 727 doctors were hired on a contractual basis.
