Lucknow: With the commitment to provide affordable and up-to-date medical facilities to the people of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has planned to construct a medical college in each of the 75 districts of UP.

In this sequence, the government has planned to open medical colleges on the Public-Private-Partnership(PPP) model in 16 districts of the state that do not have any college till now. The Uttar Pradesh Government will soon introduce a new policy on this, officials here on Monday said.

According to the government spokesman, the state government wants to strengthen health facilities at the grassroots level and the government will increase the number of health centers in rural and urban areas. Super-specialty hospitals will be constructed in districts including Gorakhpur, Agra, and Varanasi.

In December 2020, interacting with some top businessmen in Mumbai, CM Yogi had said that out of a total of 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh, many still require medical colleges. There is an opportunity for investors to make these medical colleges on the PPP model.

He had said that the state needs super-specialty hospitals and the government will extend full support if somebody wants to set up these hospitals.

The Yogi-led government is now preparing to make Uttar Pradesh a hub of medical education, where not only the people of the state but people across the world can get all types of medical facilities.

The establishment of AIIMS in Gorakhpur and Rae Bareli is proving to be a milestone in terms of UP's medical education and health facilities, reports UNI.

To deal with a situation like the COVID-19 pandemic, there are also plans to set up labs in hospitals of every district. For this, the Department of Medical and Health will seek the cooperation of Rs 20 lakh crore from the Central Government.

Till 2016, there were only 12 medical colleges and the health facilities in the state were also poor. But as soon as Yogi Government came into power, the foundation of 28 medical colleges was laid. Out of 28 colleges, the studies in seven medical colleges have been started. The construction work for 13 colleges has been started, whereas, the construction work in as many as eight colleges will be completed by next year.

It is worth mentioning that the proposals to open several medical colleges in the private sector are also under consideration. Many district hospitals are being upgraded by the government. Apart from this, there are also plans to open a large scale wellness center.
