Kolkata: With the many states under complete lockdown and mandatory 14-day home quarantine norms directed by the Centre, few doctors from West Bengal were reportedly found to be violating the strict government order.

According to recent media accounts, 5 doctors who had come back to the home from other countries did not isolate themselves and continued treating patients despite the Central Government's strict order on quarantine after abroad return. For this reason, the doctors had to face severe condemnation from the state's Indian Medical Association (IMA) as well as their counterparts at other health centres.

2 doctors-a radiologist and a gastroenterologist from the same private hospital who had returned from South America; joined their duties immediately after their return but they soon decided to go home after noticing that their coming to work was creating a buzz in the hospital. 1 plastic surgeon conducted several surgeries after his arrival and another plastic surgeon met many people after his return. All these 4 doctors tested negative for the virus, adds TOI

"The local residents had become panic-stricken, as the doctor had returned from the US on March 17. He was asked to close down the nursing home when we came to know about it. He has been asked to stay under home quarantine for the next two weeks. We are trying to find out whether he treated any patients," a senior police officer from Basirhat informed HT.

There is no report on whether the doctor had contracted the virus.
