Violence Against Doctors
Malda: In another case of violence against doctors, the kin of a patient ransacked a hospital facility and assaulted on-duty junior doctors after a patient died of snake bites at Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).
Following the incident, almost 100 junior doctors staged a sit-in protest demanding adequate security for the medical staff and on-duty junior doctors.
The incident took place on the premises of Malda Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal and five junior doctors were attacked by an angry mob of 20 people. A complaint has been lodged by the authorities against the people who allegedly carried out the violence.
As per a recent media report by The Statesman, Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal Puranjoy Saha said, “ A group of 20 people assaulted junior doctors and even the security personnel after the death of a patient. Police did not come on time to prevent them from attacking junior doctors, who were on duty, despite they informed the police on time to save them.”
