Stress, Inability to cope: PG Medical student hangs to death at Kurnool Medical college

Kurnool: A Kurnool Medical College, Post Graduate, 2nd-year medical student Dr Vishnupriya is alleged to have committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her aunt's residence in Kurnool district on Tuesday. Her suicide has left Medical students, including those doing PG at Kurnool Medical College, aghast.


Dr Vishnupriya was discovered hanging from the ceiling, with a sari draped around her neck by her aunt on her return from work. The lady rushed her to a private hospital where the doctors declared her- brought dead, reports Hindu.

The victim hailed from Anantapur district and lived at her aunt's residence at Brundavanam apartments.Her aunt is working as a deputy Tehsildar.


The police working on the case recovered a suicide note from the spot that stated that as she was not up to her parent’s  expectations, she did not want to continue the course she was studying and did not want to live anymore, as well. In her suicide note, she is believed to have asked for her parent's forgiveness for having taken this extreme step.


Her father Mohan Reddy calling her a sensitive person told the Deccan Chronicle that “She could not cope with the stress and uncertainties. She had sought my advice to drop from the MS course as it was too taxing for her abilities,” he said. He further admitted to having advised her to continue her course, as she had already completed three semesters.


Dr GS Ram Prasad, the Principal of the college calling her a bright student with a lot of promise to excel in her chosen field said the passing away of Vishnupriya was both tragic and unfortunate.


Orthopaedics professor, Dr K. Venkateswarlu described Vishnupriya as a very good student, brilliant, inquisitive and with a lot of patience. “Even yesterday (Tuesday), she attended the class taken by Prof. Raghunath and was there in the campus till afternoon,” he told Deccan. He spoke of the entire department reeling under the shock of her death. He further added that with four girl students in the department, the atmosphere was conducive to learning.


A case has been registered by the police and investigations are underway.


The police say that the medical student’s body had been shifted to the Kurnool General Hospital mortuary.
