New Delhi: The strike of around 250 resident doctors at Hindu Rao hospital continued for a second day today, with meagre response from the authorities on the issues of salaries.
The Consultants of the hospital, who had abstained from work yesterday, joined in the form of pen-down strike. Moreover, from today onwards paramedical staff and other support staff including class III and Class IV employees have also joined in the pen-down strike, on account of non- receival of wages.
With the hospital catering to more than 1000 patients daily, this has brought the functioning to a standstill. More than 60-80% of the patients are being referred to nearby hospitals including LNJP, Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital.
The issue of non-payment of salaries being pervasive to most MCD hospitals in Delhi, doctors of these organisations are being reported to join in the agitation. Resident Doctors of Swami Dayanand Hospital in East Delhi also abstained from work today and doctors of Kasturba Hospital may also join the strike from Monday.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues, Dr Aditya, RDA President, Hindu Rao Hospital said," Since we have gone on strike, the authorities have started paying salaries of some workers. However, we are going to continue this strike, till we get a long term commitment from the authorities. This is the third time in three months, that MCD doctors have gone on strike over non-payment of salaries. Such callousness from MCD is unacceptable. How does one expect us to run our houses, without any income?"
