Thane: Infertility Specialist arrested for allegedly raping a patient

Thane: A city doctor has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of conducting a test at his infertility clinic, police said.


The incident took place on Friday when the victim (21), a resident of Dharavi from neighbouring Mumbai, visited the doctor, an infertility specialist at Naupada here, sub-inspector of crime unit-I, Thane Police, R D Shinde said. The doctor has been practising for more than 10 years in the area, reports TOI


The police officer said, "On Friday around 7.55 pm, while she was being examined in a room, the accused doctor applied some kind of gel to her private part, stripped her naked and raped her."

"When the accused forced himself on her, the woman raised an alarm. However, the doctor is alleged to have overpowered her, held her mouth and raped her," the officer added.

When she tried to raise an alarm by screaming, he held her mouth tight and also threatened her of dire consequences, if she disclosed about it to anyone.


Later, the victim lodged a complaint with Naupada police and a case was registered with the Naupada police, following which the doctor was charged under IPC sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation),


Further investigations are being carried over by a woman officer of the crime branch, police said.


"It's a sensitive case and we are investigating it from all angles," a police official privy to the investigation, told TOI
