Thane: Bride to be doctor, who had just completed her medical studies, has recently died in a horrific accident. The 25-year-old doctor died after being run over by a truck when she fell off a two-wheeler as it slipped on a pothole in Maharashtra's Thane district.

The police officials informed PTI that the truck driver is reported to have absconding and a case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver under Indian Penal Code Section 304 -A (causing death by negligence).

The unfortunate incident took place on October 9th when the doctor, who was supposed to get married next month, was on her way home from Bhiwandi town after making some purchases for her wedding.

While riding pillion on the two-wheeler being driven by her brother, she lost her balance and fell on the road when the vehicle skidded over a pothole near Dugadh junction. The doctor was run over by a truck that was right behind. While she died on the spot, her brother sustained minor injuries, reports TOI

"The truck driver fled. He is absconding and we have filed a case against him. No arrests have been made as we do not have details of the truck or the driver, but an offence under section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered,” the ASP told HT.

Ganeshpuri Police in Thane (rural) informed Mirror they have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver for causing death by negligence and rash and negligent driving along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. They are examining CCTV footage as part of their search for the driver.

Later, several members of the Shramjeevi Sanghatana, an outfit working for tribal welfare, rushed to the Angaon toll booth, near which the mishap took place, and forced it to shut down around midnight. The organisation's youth wing president Pramod Pawar claimed the pothole-ridden road claimed several lives this year, and demanded that a case be registered against the company which was given the task of road construction and maintenance, and the Public Works Department (PWD).
