The mega plan is create a repository of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and support it with working remedies from allopathic and traditional medicines.

Government is planning to set up a University of Medicines to create a central documentation of diseases, and heightening the benefits of traditional medicines to treat the same. All schools of medicines will be highlighted in one central repository of medicines, and both, allopathic and traditional medicines will be given a priority; to help broaden the understanding of its cure.

According to PTI,

"The University of Medicines will be a repository of all knowledge on communicable and non-communicable diseases and help us to broaden our understanding towards traditional medicines and its benefits," Union Health Minister, JP Nadda said.

Addressing the 'Stop Diabetes Movement (SDM) All India Review meeting', organised by S-Vyasa University, Bengaluru, today, Nadda said that the prevalence of lifestyle related non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and others were on the "rise" in India and it has added to the burden of already existing communicable disease.

He further said that the new institute will do research in the field of lifestyle diseases and its cure with traditional as well as allopathic medicines.
